What Women Want – XXIX. Love (3 of 3)

True love
Can true love exists between a man and a woman? Yes, it
can. I would like it to be more common, but perhaps I am too
demanding!
In older (and wiser) days, marriages were arranged. Young
people often balked. “But I don’t love him mom.” “Love will
come, give it a chance,” was the stock reply. In many cases,
love did come. A quieter type of love; the kind that does not
burn itself out.
Love is more than affection and a strong physical
attraction. It is also companionship. Two people walking side
by side, and facing life’s difficulties together. It is not
uncommon today for people to live long enough to celebrate their
50th wedding anniversary. And it is so pleasing to see the
tender affection these old people have for each other. The
fireworks of the bedroom are long gone. What we have instead is
something far more beautiful.
I have witnessed cases where two homely people joined their
lives together. Their union was a joy to behold. These people
were blessed by God; they were able to see the beauty inside
rather than the glitter outside.
Friendship or more
I’ve said that women love an interesting man, more so if he
is a good listener. For many he is considered a gem. They are
more than willing to befriend him. Sometimes this is fine with
the guy. However, if the lady is attractive, in time, he will
expect more.
This is an area where the sexes collide.
The man could already be in a relationship or even married.
But he will still feel he has been led on. For him it was a case
that she was interested (sexually) in him; and two are better
than one, right?
For a woman, finding a male friend who is sensitive, can
talk intelligently, and carefully listen, is a rarity. She will
jump at the opportunity. But otherwise, she is not romantically
inclined towards him. But if he likes her, there will be grief
down the road.
As a woman, offer your friendship carefully. And always be
ready to go beyond that, or stop when there is still time.
The other way around? I never encountered or heard of a man
who just wanted the friendship of an attractive lady, but
otherwise was not interested in her sexually. But surely, there
must be such cases out there.
