Equal Partners

"Women are the backbone of all societies. They do a substantial part of the work, and play a major role in raising the future generation yet they are largely powerless. The decisions that count are made by men and foisted upon women."

What Women Want – XI. Must be Well-Educated (1 of 2)

“Without an education you are nothing.”  How many times did
I hear this expression (and many variations to it) from my
parents and assorted members of the Egyptian tribe that had a
hand in my upbringing.  The signs were not auspicious at the
beginning; my report cards created more confrontations than I
care to remember.  However, all that was destined to change.
Beside completing the studies which would one day make me a
professional, I spend my life worshipping daily at the altar of
knowledge.  I never felt I knew enough and always wanted to know
more.

I can therefore fully understand, and respect, the fact that
women demand an educated man.  Among the women I met, some were
not well-educated.  Yet, they liked meeting with a knowledgeable
man, and wanted to learn as much as they could from me.  They
also appreciated the fact that there never was any hint on my
part of looking down at them.  All individuals are my equal, or
will be one day.

The importance of education

Besides the often cited genetic advantage, women seek an
educated man for a number of reasons.

1. Earning potential

A well-educated man will have a better chance to earn more
money and thus ensure that his family will enjoy a higher
standard of living.

Since many women today are themselves educated and high-
earners, it will mean in this case an even higher income for this
family.  Even in our modern time, women can, and do, take a close
look at the income (or potential) of a prospective mate.

And never mind the stories of uncle Joe who established a
thriving business with a grade 6 education.  The days of the
business owner armed with nothing more than a little black book
are long gone.

2. More reasonable

A couple will face many problems during their life together;
mostly minor, occasionally major.  Whatever the issue facing you,
you want to discuss it with a reasonable partner.  While
education doesn’t offer an iron-clad guarantee, chances are an
educated man is an individual you can better reason with.

3. Companionship with an equal

If you’re an educated woman, you don’t want to live with a
man who can only talk about touchdowns, goals scored, or baskets
sunk.  It’s an intellectual hell, even if this guy comes with
certain physical advantages.

An individual with a limited education could be difficult to
live with; he could be a drinker, a gambler, or could even be an
abuser.  But beware; what I just said can apply to a very
educated person.  For a woman, it’s never just black or white.  A
prospective mate should be put under a microscope.
Unfortunately, when you’re young, intellect is not exactly at the
top of your “must have” list.
