"Women are the backbone of all societies. They do a substantial part of the work, and play a major role in raising the future generation yet they are largely powerless. The decisions that count are made by men and foisted upon women."

The Second Exodus – Canada – CCCXLI. Final Thoughts

This brings to an end my account of my Second Exodus.  It took me through four countries and brought back numerous memories.  It was a memorable journey which I shared with countless readers.

Of course, my wedding was a beginning not an ending; but I consider it as the end of my Second Exodus, and the beginning of my family life in my new country.

So many things happened afterwards; and it is all documented in a separate book “Anguish!”  For the foreseeable future, I do not intend to publish this book on the internet.  There are two reasons for that:  First, if I were to do so, the complete book will simply be interminable; second, “Anguish!” includes personal matters which I do not wish to publish.  One more point:  This is a memoir and not an autobiography, and my focus was to go from Egypt until the point where I settled down.  (Like the Israelites in the Bible!).

And I did settle down in Canada.  As I am writing this, I had been in Canada for 50 years (1964 – 2014).  Of course, Canada cannot be equated with the Promised Land, unless you substitute snow and ice for milk and honey!

In Canada, I finished my studies, became a professional, and had a rewarding career.  I shared my life with an intelligent and multifaceted woman who enriched me in so many, many ways.  I had two wonderful children who in due time presented me with three much-cherished grandchildren.

This memoir is written in the winter of my life; and I am so thankful that God has given me the years, the health, and the necessary talent to complete such a monumental task.  Many of us will not see all the seasons of our lives; in my case, I know I have put to good use God’s many gifts.

I am so glad I waited until now; for age has given me wisdom, maturity, and above all years of experience.  And it was through this prism that the myriad events described in my account were viewed.

The last point I wish to make is that this is not only my Second Exodus; it is the Second Exodus of 80,000 Jews who left Egypt from 1948 to 1967.  The personalities, circumstances, and setting differ; but the basic premise is the same:  Many hardships, followed by countless success stories.

There are hardly any Jews left in Egypt now; therefore, the Second Exodus can very well be the Last Exodus.
